Imagine stepping into your local coffee shop, but instead of sitting down with friends or whipping out a laptop, you put on a pair of headphones… and wait.
Through the headphones, you hear a mesmerizing soundscape and notice three actors, hidden among the coffee-drinking patrons. You watch them move through the space, morphing between characters – a frustrated writer, a trio of old friends, an inspiration-starved architect and more. You hear their words, their inner thoughts, the sound of their hearts beating, whispers of their future lives.
When you remove the headphones, you’re back in your local coffee shop… but you’ll never look at it the same way again.
The premiere production of Eavesdrop: The Coffee Shop Show will take place in Caffe Crema, in Calgary’s southwest corner. This unique site-specific performance invites the residents of Bridlewood to experience innovative theatre in the comfort of their neighbourhood coffee shop… and invites all of Calgary to make the trip down to this fantastic java joint!
Eavesdrop: The Coffee Shop Show takes an everyday coffee shop and creates a magical layer of reality, exposing the incredible possibilities of a normal afternoon.
